Flint Rising Calls on U.S. House to Pass Flint Water Crisis Funding

Funding is a critical step in supporting Flint families who still can’t drink the water

FLINT — Flint Rising is calling on the U.S. House Representatives to pass a short-term federal funding bill and include assistance for Flint. The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted in favor of passing bills to provide funding to help begin fixing the Flint water crisis, but representatives in the U.S. House excluded it their bills, leaving Flint residents with nothing as the legislation moves forward.

“We have been fighting for justice and access to clean water since this man-made crisis began almost two and a half years ago. We can’t wait any longer. Congress must act immediately to provide the resources we need to start fixing this crisis,” said Nayyirah Shariff, director of Flint Rising. “It’s time for our elected officials across the country to step up and do the right thing for the people of Flint.”

If the House doesn’t take action to pass funding for Flint by Monday, residents may have to wait until 2017 until any federal action is taken.
